PLASTIC CLOSURES

The MCG Plastic Closure Laboratory in Samrand Johannesburg is fully equipped to meet the      demanding requirements of all the major international closure customers in the Soft Drink,           Mineral Water, Pharmaceutical, Food and Brewing Industries.

The laboratory has state of the art equipment to support locally manufactured as well as                     imported closures, by testing to the individual customer test requirements.

QUALITY CONTROL:

These requirements ensure that the closures will conform to the Abuse, Carbon Retention and Opening Performance requirements under hot and cold conditions.

The MCG Plastic Closures Laboratory is fitted with purpose built walk-in hot and cold rooms. The laboratory was designed around the rigorous Coca-Cola Test Protocols and includes for example: the measurement of Glass and PET Neck Finishes on the Profile Projector.

All in-coming raw materials are tested prior to their release into production using the FTIR process which identifies and quantifies additive levels within the materials.

The laboratory originated from the Soft Drink Industries conversion from Aluminium Closures to Plastic Closures in 1981 and was initially based in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town.

The Laboratory was accredited as a Coca-Cola Plastic Closure approved laboratory for closures as well as the raw material used to produce the finished product.

The facilities’ move from Cape Town to Johannesburg in 2005 saw further large scale investment in state of the art equipment and is the only specialised closure laboratory in the Southern Hemisphere.
